My Role and Activities:

We have a better chance to achieve our goals when we set goals and keep track of progress. To achieve a healthy lifestyle goal, tracking progress for exercise and calorie intake can help. Beachbody offered industry-top fitness programs on DVD at that time. Recognizing that consumer engagement had shifted to mobile usage, I led the team to develop the first mobile tracker to complement the fitness programs such as P90X, BodyBeast, 21 Day Fix Nutrient Trackers with access to support groups. 

Subsequently, I pitched to the founders to increase distribution via mobile on-demand video access. At first, my pitch was met with strong resistance, due to the company’s familiarity and comfort level with DVD sales. With persistent effort, my pitch was eventually accepted and led to the development of Openfit, an live, interactive, classes on-demand video fitness app.

Problem:

Tracking workout progress is a crucial part of the process. Paper is an inefficient and ineffective means to track data in a mobile world, resulting in frustration and demotivation. Company management was comfortable with DVD operations and was reluctant to transition to video-on-demand via mobile distribution. 

Solution:

Provide a companion tracking app for the P90X fitness program to help users track their progress and take workout training videos on the go instead of traveling with DVDs.  

Process:

I collected feedback from customers and support teams. I led the design and product teams to develop an MVP prototype for the P90X app, which I presented to the management team. The successful proof of concept gained approval, and I mobilized the team to develop the first mobile app.

Impact:

Increased engagement, motivation, and upsell for the next level workout training program.
